In Spain we took time out to visit a Bull Fighting Ring. It was really cool. We paid a few bucks and were allowed to walk around it freely during the day when it wasn't being used. The whole idea of Bull Fighting makes me sad but the arena was really cool.Wednesday, June 30, 2010

On this day in 2008 we went to the Pride Parade like we do every year. It's fun and there are many photo ops. Here is a good one of one of revelers hamming it up for me.

On this day in 2008 I took a picture of an artichoke in full bloom. It was the first time I had seen one in this state before. Usually when I see them they are steaming and next to a small bowl of butter and more recently stuffed with crab from Whole Foods. If you want the recipe shoot me a message.

On this day we decorated our Howard Lederer sign with stuff. He is wearing a Krispy Kreme hat and eating Fatburger Fries. The following day he was sporting a sign that said, "I'm all in for fried foods."

Since I have never documented anything interesting on this day, I will continue with the Spain photos. The number of scooters in Spain stood out to me. There were way more than I had ever seen before. I took many photos of scooters on that trip.

Here is possibly my first "from the hip" photo I ever took. It's a method I use to take photos discretly. This one was taken in a Gothic Cathedral in Spain. I stood really still and snapped the photo with my Canon EOS 650. I still have the camera but the shutter is sticky and I'm not sure I have seen batteries for it in years.

Look what I saw today!
San Francisco CA
Today was one of the days that we used our newly found ADVENTUROUS spirit. Yesterday we were riding the 38 Geary to pick up some ingredients from a Korean market to make some stuff from a Korean cookbook we got from the Library when we saw a sign that said, "Live Bluegrass Music Sunday". The sign was in front of a place called Buckshot Restaurant, Bar and Gameroom. It looked interesting riding by so Saturday night we decided that we would return on Sunday after doing a bit of internet research. This isn't something that we would have done before we moved to San Francisco but now we're ADVENTUROUS! We decided to get their a bit early so that we could ensure a seat.
So today we hopped the bus and rode out. It was empty and this alone would have caused us to pause and rethink our plan in the past but not now that we are ADVENTUROUS. We boldly walked in and walked to the back of the place to order food. I ordered the Burger and Donna got the Old Fashioned Breakfast. While the hip looking heavily tattooed young man fired up the kitchen we took our seat at the bar and ordered Bloody Marys. The only other people there were the bartender, the cook, one of the musicians from the blue grass band and his girlfriend. Our Bloody Marys were great and the food was fantastic. There are quite a few other things on the menu that we want to try so we will be going back. We got to talking to the Bar Tender, the Musician's girlfriend and a second bartender while the band set up. It was really fun to have an entire bar and band and kitchen serving the 2 of us. Halfway through the set other people starting coming in but it wasn't near as packed as it should have been. The food was great, the drinks were cheap and the music was great. We will be going back soon. Why don't you join us?

They had a ton of bottled beers and 3 beers on tap. The tap beers were Stella, Blue Moon and Sierra Nevada and they were 3 bucks. If that is too expensive for you, you can pick up a Tecate or a Pabst for 2 bucks.

The Gameroom part had shuffle board, pool, a few arcade games (including Tron and Gauntlet 2) and Skee-Ball.

Part way through the performance the place attracted a few more people. There was even a family of about 6 (with kids and all) that showed up for lunch. Here is one of the kids blasting away big game.

After the Buckshot we went to the California Academy of Sciences. It wasn't very crowded so we got to see some of the things we haven't seen before.
That's what we saw today. Wish you coulda been there.

One A Day - On This Day in 2007
San Francisco CA

On this day in 2007 Donna and I returned to one of our favorite restaurants the House of Prime Rib. This is kind of significant because less than a year earlier we were eating at the House of Prime Rib as tourists on our way to a wedding and this time we walked from our apartment. It was one of those moments that I can only explain by referencing working at Disneyland. If you ever worked at Disneyland you know the feeling. You ride Star Tours 100 times and on the day you get trained to work there you see it from all kinds of different angles and it looks like a totally different place.

Look what I saw today!
San Francisco CA Out and about with the Lensbaby
I have been having fun with my Lensbaby recently. We have had a cool 3 day weekend this weekend and I was able to take a lot of pictures on our adventures. I have compiled the best of the bunch for today's LWIST post.
On Thursday night we went to a fancy Japanese dinner at Kiss Seafood. We had a great meal with some friends. All 4 of us ended up trying something that we had never had before. My new try was Sea Snails (not pictured).
On Friday Donna and I took the Anchor Steam Brewery Tour. It was an awesome tour but they didn't allow much photography so you will just have to surf their extensive website.

On Saturday afternoon we went out for lunch. We wanted to eat outside because the weather is exceptional right now. We had a hard time finding a place to relaxe and eat that wasn't hosting World Cup Revelers. We ended up finding a place and this building was right in front of us while we ate.
Today we went to the Farmer's Market at Fort Mason. It was our first time to this Farmer's Market because it doesn't go year round. We picked up some nice produce and I shot a few nice shots like this one.
There was also a lot of kite flying at the park near Fort Mason. Everyone seemed to have the same kite which made for a good photo.
On the way home we stopped by Whole Foods to pick up some eats and I took this very urban shot on California St.

San Francisco CA The Powell St. Bart Station
On this day in 2008 Apple had the Bart line locked up with advertising. Every poster was for the iPod. I can't remember if they wrapped all of the pillars and covered the steps. Most recently Left 4 Dead did this and it was quite impressive. The Bart station looked like a slice of E3. When I come across the photo of that I will post it.

Irvine CA Point of View

On this day in 2006 we were finishing up a poker video game. This is an awesome set up that allowed us to test a 6-12 players at once. Our game supported tournaments with up to 24 players (if memory serves) and we were able to test 12 players on our end and then we had a large group of testers at Crave helping us out on their end. It was a lot of fun. In the photo Jon is testing a PSP connectivity issue.

Look what I saw today!
San Francisco CA
Donna got me an early birthday gift this week. I received a Lensbaby and I love it! It's a lens that allows you to tilt it to put different parts of the lens out of focus. There are also a bunch of accessories you can buy for it like a fish eye and a plastic lens. I plan to pick those up one day in the near future but for now I will have tons of fun with what I have. It is a lens that allows you to get really funky artistic shots. It's really fun to use. Below are pictures I took today and the only modification I did to them outside the camera is I darkened them a bit because the lens doesn't work perfectly with my light meter. I also cropped 1 or 2 but I didn't add any of the cool effects you see. It's the lens baby!
Here are some flowers at a shop. They write the prices on the back of cigarette cartons.
Here is an interesting photo of a tree. I like how the lens makes the lights look like ovals due to the tilt
